Rockstar Volunteer: Delaney Randles

The work of a Volunteer Leader at Family House is never quite what one would expect. Many of our weekly volunteers help to restock the common areas of the house, ensuring that our families have enough supplies, including toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and other necessities. This spring, our amazing volunteer Delaney Randles took on the job of restocking, inventorying, and reorganizing the house each week. She has been a huge help to the volunteer program as well as to other staff members helping with office projects.

Not only does she volunteer and go to school she also has an internship at the California Department of Public Health and has often worked on issues with the CalREDIE system in hospitals and with problems involving disease outbreak.

When Delaney has a spare moment she loves science (especially neuroscience), sketching and painting, playing many instruments, and reading science fiction books and comics.

Delaney has gotten to know a lot of the volunteers and families, and is a huge help to the Volunteer Program. Thank you Delaney for all of your hard work! Family House wouldn’t be the same without you!

Volunteer Appreciation Week

We have the greatest people surrounding us! Volunteers from all over the world find a small local charity in San Francisco called Family House where they make the choice to help. The entire existence of Family House could not have happened if it wasn't for volunteers.

Family House started with an all-volunteer staff.  From the very beginning, it was volunteers that chose to come together to create a place where families would be taken care of. As the need to support more families started to grow, volunteers have been there every step of the way.

By providing meals, dogs to pet, yoga to relax, arts to create, a haircut to feel good, and maintaining the facilitates, volunteers have provided comfort and care to the families who stay with us. "It's as good as home." During the hardest time of their lives, volunteers make the experience at Family House so much better.

We send a big Thank You to over 1,700 volunteers who walk through our doors every year. As Family House moves to Mission Bay, our need for more dedicated, compassionate, quality volunteers will continue to grow. We are thrilled to be able to provide new opportunities for even more volunteers to get involved.

To all of our volunteers, thank you for making the choice to help provide families with community, comfort, and support to make them feel at home during their trying times.

Sweet Love from PG&E and Friends

The mothers of two students from St. Veronica School in South San Francisco (Nancy and Roseann) came up with an idea to donate new pots and pans to Family House, and the project snowballed into something even better!

Roseann is part of the PG&E #CustomerBillingTeam, and brought the idea to her office, where her teammates organized their first ever Bake Sale in honor of Family House - raising over $500!

Thank you to the bakers from team #LovetoBake - Shirley, Jennifer, Sandy, Edith, Ryan, Athena,Virginia, Roseann, and their supervisor #JenniferDinh, as well as all of the PG&E employees who donated to the fundraiser.
